Ryan Rhea · Software Engineer · Portland, OR

From idea
to shipped.

Native Apple apps, the Python and Go services behind them, and the hardened Linux infrastructure they run on. Thirty years in, still shipping, now faster than ever.

What I do well.

Apple platforms, end to end

Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit. Apps, extensions, content blockers, custom keyboards. A decade of App Store releases, code signing, and App Review battle scars.

Go, Python, and Bash

Go when the answer should be one static binary. Python since 2006, Bash since the 1990s. FastAPI for services, SQLite for state, systemd for units.

AI as engineering infrastructure

Multi-model orchestration in shipped products (Claude, GPT, DeepSeek, Gemini) with my own routing and tool-use layers. A daily agentic coding practice is how one engineer moves like a small team.

Real systems, kept boring

From one of Google's first custom datacenters to DNS, certificates, and cloud provisioning at HPE. A personal fleet of hardened VPS hosts, provisioned end-to-end by Ansible.

Private by default.

Everything I ship collects no telemetry, requests minimum permissions, and runs as much as possible on the device or my own infrastructure. It is a posture, not a feature.
